EcoDepot Launches ( 22 March 2006 )

Beginning March 25th, a new and better vision for managing recycling and refuse begins in Christchurch. Now when you have material you no longer want or need, you'll be taking it to an EcoDepot.

The EcoDepots are committed to recovering anything possible, and the new, more positive name better represents the innovative vision of process and recovery that the EcoDepots are all about.

In the coming months and years the way the EcoDepots operate and how they are designed will change significantly. Before, you just took your 'waste' to the dump and dropped it off - what happened to it then was someone else's problem. But at the EcoDepots the emphasis is going to change towards reuse, recycling and recovery, and that will be something that everyone will be responsible for.

The launch of the EcoDepots will take place at Metro Place on March 25th, where the Deputy Mayor Carole Evans will officially open the EcoDepot. This launch will be followed by open days at Styx Mill (Sunday April 9th) and Parkhouse Rd (Sunday April 23rd - TBC).

The new look and name will be unveiled at each station, and there will be giveaways, spot prizes for those who have made an effort to keep material out of the pit, and some display material about what happens to the items you recycle. Details of all the openings and their associated activities will be in your local newspapers.

Each open day will take place between 9am and 3pm, but the EcoDepot will remain open normal hours (7am-4:30pm) for business.
